Reversible Lanes
This is another example of the need
for Human Engineers in the Highway
Department (see Entrance Ramp). The reversible lane sign, showing
a too small red “X” or a too small green “arrow”, was not designed by
Human
Engineers. People are being killed because of a lack of Human
Engineering
knowledge. The businesses and the public suffer further
because
of this lack of knowledge when the Highway Department eliminates the
lane
and erects a concrete barrier.

The “NO” letters should be 2 times
the height of the “YES” letters.
The “NO” letters should be 2 times as wide as the “YES” letters. The
“NO”
word should be 2 times as wide as the “YES” word. The lights in
“NO”
will be colored red and the lights in “YES” will be colored
green.
Some of the lights in “NO” will flash on and off. The
dashes
are yellow - representing the lines of the reversible lane.
There are several cues to enable the
driver to distinguish between the
lanes: (1) language (2) height of letters (3) width of each letter, (4)
width of the words, (5) the words have no common letters, (6) the “NO”
flashes, and (7) the color of letters.
Forget the international marking, people are being killed and merchants
are losing their livelihood.
